10월, 낙엽이 질때쯤이면 생각나는 노래 - When October Goes by Barry Manilow
"When October Goes" 는 Jonny Mercer 라는 작사가의 가사에 Barry Manilow 가 멜로디를 붙인 곡으로 1984년도에 발표.
Jonny Mercer가 뇌종양으로 세상을 떠난 후, 그의 부인이 완성되지 않은 노래가사들을 직접 Barry Manilow에 전해줬고 그 중에 하나에 곡을 붙인게 When October goes. 세상을 떠나기 앞선 Jonny Mercer의 아쉬움이 잔뜩 베어나오는 노랫말이 슬프게 느껴지는 곡이다.

Kenny Garrett - Asian Medley
2005년 7월 토론토 재즈페스티발에 Joshua Redman 공연을 보러갔다가 보게된 Kenny Garrett
굉장히 Funky 한 리듬과 듣기좋은 멜로디로 한여름을 후끈한 분위기로 만들던 중 갑자기 조용한 피아노 반주와 함께 연주된 Asian medley.
그 중간에 나오는 아리랑이 너무 토론토의 밤하늘 아래에서 듣게되서인지 레코딩된 버전을 듣을때 보다는 더 큰 감동을 받았었습니다.
Asian medley는 일본곡인 Akadonbo, 아리랑, Tsubassawo Kudasai, 이렇게 3곡을 메들리형식으로 만든 곡입니다.

Adios Nonino - Astor Piazzolla
이탈리안 바이올린 연주자 Salvatore Accardo 가 Astor Piazzolla의 곡들은 연주한 앨범들 중, 제가 가장 좋아하는 Adios Nonino (안녕, 할아버지) 를 소개합니다.
Adios Nonino는 1959년 아버지의 사망, 그로 인한 공연취소, 재정적인 어려움으로 힘든 상황에 놓인 중에 만든 노래라선지 굉장히 비장하기까지 합니다.
반도네온의 애절한 소리도 좋지만, 유난히 피아졸라의 곡은 소규모 실내약으로도 많이 연주되기도 하죠.
이 곡의 첫부분은 좀 난해할 수도 있지만, 조금 참고 들으면 정말 아름답고도 슬픈 멜로디가 나옵니다.
Nonino는 피아졸라가 아버지를 부르는 애칭이기도 합니다.

Chat Baker 의 트럼펫도 좋지만, 기타와 트럼본 그리고 좀 더 드라이한 목소리가 어울어진 이 곡도 괜찮다.

아침에 들었던 다른 Estate의 느낌이 알고 있던 것과 너무 달라서 이상했지만, 다시 들어보니 이곡도 결국 리듬은 같네.
